All interviews must be scheduled through the BYU Athletic Communications office. Contact Brett Pyne at 801-422-4912. Interviews must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. Special requests regarding legitimate breaking news will by accommodated where possible. While school is in session, player interviews will not be conducted until after practice. On the day of a game, no interviews will be conducted until after the game. The live television and radio entities broadcasting a particular game are encouraged to record any interviews needed for their broadcasts the day before the game.
ATTENDING PRACTICES
With possible exceptions, men's basketball practices will be open (3-5
p.m.). If you plan on attending practice, you must watch practice from
the designated media-seating area at Portal U on the concourse level.
Take the elevator near the ticket office up to the third level and then
go to your right to enter at Portal U. You can also take the stairs by
the ticket office. Portal U is located at top of the stairs. You are
welcome to attend any open practice, but media interviews will only be
conducted on the scheduled media days. Rights-holding broadcasters
attending practices to prepare for their upcoming live broadcast should
notify Brett Pyne if they plan on attending practice. The location of
the designated viewing area for rights-holding broadcasters is
courtside. Take the elevator to the first floor and go to the right
past the first entrance to the court until reaching the second entrance
near the pressroom on the southwest corner of the court.
WEEKLY MEDIA DAY
Local media are encouraged to attend BYU's weekly media day at the
Marriott Center. Head Coach Dave Rose and BYU players and coaches will
be available for interviews at the weekly media day. A media advisory
will be emailed each week to announce the media day, but as a rule it
will take place each Monday after practice at approximately 5 p.m.
Requested player interviews will be conducted immediately after
practice at the northwest entrance to the court, just down from the
designated media-seating area for practices at Portal U. Coach Rose
will be available for interviews after player interviews are completed.
Come directly down the stairs from Portal U after practice to conduct
your interviews. If you are arriving at the end of practice only to
conduct interviews, you can go down the elevator to the first level and
then turn to the right to arrive at the northwest entrance to the
court. Special interview requests or extended feature interviews must
be arranged in advance through the Athletic Communications office.
B-roll or still photos can be shot with approval during the final 10
minutes of practice from the northwest entrance to the court.
WEEKLY MWC TELECONFERENCE
Coach Rose will participate in a weekly Mountain West Conference
Coaches Teleconference each Monday morning at 10 a.m. MST during the
conference season. Out-of-town media are encouraged to participate in
the weekly teleconferences to obtain comments from Coach Rose about
each week's happenings. When needed, telephone interviews can be
arranged through the Athletic Communications office.
FEATURE INTERVIEWS
Special interview requests or extended feature interviews must be
arranged in advance through the Athletic Communications office.
Requests should be made well in advance of deadlines so appropriate
arrangements can be made to meet the schedule demands of everyone
involved.
POSTGAME INTERVIEWS
After home games in the Marriott Center, Coach Rose will speak to the
media after addressing his team. Postgame interviews are conducted in
the interview room located across from the pressroom. Postgame
interviews with BYU players will be conducted in the interview room
following Coach Rose's comments. Interviews with the visiting team are
typically conducted outside the visiting team's locker room located
directly across the hall from the pressroom. A typed quote sheet with
postgame remarks from both head coaches will be provided to the media
along with any postgame notes. Coach Rose and BYU players will
participate in postgame interviews on the road per the arrangements of
the home team.
MEDIA CREDENTIALS
Working media wishing to cover BYU must submit a request for
credentials to Brett Pyne of the BYU Athletic Communications office.
Season credentials will be provided at the discretion of the Athletic
Communications office to media members who regularly cover BYU.
Single-game credential requests by working media should be made three
days prior to the game. Any requests received later than noon the day
before the game will not be accepted. Credentials are for working
members of the media only. Daily and next-day newspapers, wire
services, live television and radio broadcasts, television and radio
stations reporting for nightly news, national magazines and those who
regularly cover college basketball will be given priority. Fan-based
Internet sites that allow chat rooms or message boards with anonymous
postings will not be credentialed. To be considered for credentials,
Internet sites must have a proven history of professional journalistic
conduct and meet all criteria and standards required of other media
members. Media credentials are property of BYU and can be denied or
revoked at any time at the discretion of BYU. Credentials must be
surrendered upon request.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Photography credentials will be issued only to accredited photographers
and television camera operators on assignment. Floor-space limitations
in the Marriott Center are considered when issuing credentials.
Freelance photographers not on assignment and amateur photographers
will not be credentialed. Credential requests must be made by the
appropriate editor/director from the news organization seeking access
for a specific newsgathering assignment. Any video, photos or images
obtained at BYU are to be used for that organization's news coverage
only. The use of video, photos or images shot at BYU for commercial
purposes of any kind is strictly prohibited without prior written
consent from BYU Athletics and BYU Licensing. Photographers are
provided Ethernet access in the back area of the working pressroom. If
attending practices, B-roll or still photos can be shot with approval
during the final 10 minutes of practice from the northwest entrance to
the court.
MEDIA SERVICES
Game notes with updated statistics are available on BYU's website and
are also issued to the media via email. Contact Brett Pyne to be added
to the media email list. BYU and opponent game notes and media guides,
the Mountain West Conference release, a roster sheet and the official
game program are provided to the media on site at each game. Official
game statistics are distributed at halftime and at the conclusion of
the game. Stats monitors are provided for live radio and television
broadcasters. Live broadcasters will also receive a statistics printout
during timeouts throughout the game. Visiting radio broadcast lines
(ISDN and analog) are provided. Wireless Internet is available on the
pressrow and in the pressroom adjacent to the court on the southwest
corner. Several analog lines are also available in the pressroom.
Toll-free long distance or credit-card calls can be made from these
telephones.
LOCATION AND PARKING
The Marriott Center is located on the BYU campus at the corner of 450
East and University Parkway (1650 North) in Provo. Media parking is
available in Lot #1, immediately north of the Marriott Center. Media
parking passes must be requested with credentials in advance. To reach
the pressroom, use the north entrance (ticket office) of the Marriott
Center. Take the elevator down to the first level and follow the
hallway to the right. The pressroom is located at the second portal on
the southwest corner.
