Prior To BYU: 1989-93 defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at San Diego State; 1986-89 defensive coordinator and linebackers at Idaho; 1981-86 outside and inside linebackers, secondary and special teams at UNLV; 1980-81 secondary at Arizona State; 1977-80 offensive and defensive line and outside linebackers at Oregon.
Of Note: Has coached in every Division I conference in the West. He recruited six players who became All-pro in the NFL. Has coached 11 bowl games.
Playing Career: Transferred to the University of Utah in 1975, where he suffered a career-ending back injury; was an All-American linebacker and defensive end at Santa Barbara CC (1973-74).
Education: Graduated Phi Kappa Phi at Arizona State (1988, M.A. in history); Oregon (1978, B.S. in history); Santa Barbara CC; San Marcos HS (Santa Barbara, Calif., 1973).

Family: Wife (Karen Curtis, a member of the BYU Athletic Hall of Fame and served as head volleyball coach at BYU, Washington State, UNLV and Central Arizona College where she won a national championship. Karen was an assistant coach of the USA Women's National Team through the Barcelona Olympics). They have three sons: (Mackenzie, Tanner, on a mission to Wisconsin, and Tucker).
