Gordon Eakin enters his seventh season as head coach of BYU softball. Last season, he led the Cougars to their fourth consecutive NCAA Regional appearance. Currently, Eakin has a .683 winning percentage at BYU, tallying just shy of 250 wins in his six season as head coach.
With Eakin coaching, the Cougars have posted great offensive numbers. Last season BYU ranked fourth in the nation with a .325 batting average and fifth in the nation for both home runs per game and slugging percentage.
Under Eakins stewardship BYU has earned two MWC titles, in addition to assisting the 2001 MWC team.
Eakin has worked as an assistant to the team since the program's inception in 2000. He was largely responsible for coaching hitting and recruiting incoming freshman and transfer students.
Eakin gives BYU vast experience in both baseball and softball. He played three years of baseball at the University of Utah before signing with the Oakland Athletics organization, where he played for three years. He is also a member of the Utah Professional Baseball Players Association. Eakin currently works as part of the USA Softball national team as a selection camp coach.
Playing Career: As a softball player, Eakin was a three-time member of the United States All-star team. Eakin won a silver medal in the Pan American games in 1994. Coach Eakin has been honored on the ISC All-World First Team as well as an ASA All-American. Eakin also played in three U.S. Olympic sports festivals ('86, '93, '94) winning bronze, silver and gold, respectively.
Eakin played shortstop on the Larry H. Miller Toyota Fast Pitch Softball Team, which was ranked in the Top 10 in the world. He was inducted into the Utah Fast Pitch Hall of Fame in 1998.

Family: Eakin is the father of three children. He and his wife Barbi also have three grandsons.
