Stan Crump is entering his 28th year at BYU in 2008-09. He begins his first season serving as associate head coach under Tim Powers on BYU's newly combined coaching staff that will coach both men's and women's teams.
Crump served as head coach of the Cougar women's team the past 27 seasons since taking over the women's program from Powers for the 1981-82 season. During his tenure guiding the women's program, Crump proved to be among the most dominant coaches in the conferences in which the Cougars compete.
He guided his teams to 16 conference titles and had 15 athletes earn 42 All-America awards while being honored eight times as the conference coach of the year. Under Coach Crump, the women's swimming team never finished lower than second in any conference championship.
In 1991 Crump led his swimmers to the best season in school history, capturing the inaugural WAC crown and grabbing a best-ever 11th-place finish at the NCAA Championships. Crump was named WAC Coach of the Year and the seven-squad members that traveled to the NCAA Championships accumulated a total of 12 All-American Awards.
Crump is the recipient of the Collegiate Swim Coaches Association of America's Distinguished Coach Award, CSCAA's Master Coach Award and a ranking of Level 5 for coaching from the America Swimming Coaches Association, the highest level that can be earned.
Since he began coaching, Crump has always made academics a priority. His teams have consistently boasted significant academic accomplishments. In every semester but two since 1986, Crump's teams qualified for the Academic All-America Team Award.
Education: Crump received a B.S. degree in Physical Education from BYU in 1978. During his senior year he was assistant men's swim coach and after graduation, went on to teach physical education in the Provo School District. He coached swimming at Timpview High School, in Provo, Utah, for three years. His 1979 Timpview squad was ranked ninth in the nation in Swimming World's Mythical Top Ten. In 1988, he earned an M.S. degree from BYU in Analysis of Human Motion.
Family: He has been married to Holly Ann Daughtrey since 1977 and together they have five children, three daughters: Margaret (17), Susannah (13) and Eliza (8) and two sons: Jacob (15) and Wesley (11).
