SUMMARY: The 2007 Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year, Jonathan Tavernari followed a standout season in his first year with the Cougars with a record-setting sophomore campaign. He earned All-MWC Third Team honors and set the BYU single-season and sophomore MWC three-point record with 88 triples. Tavernari repeated as a third-team selection in 2009 and posted averages of 15.7 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. He helped the Cougars win back-to-back outright MWC titles in his first two seasons and a share of the title in his third season. The 6-foot-6 forward was the lone non-professional to earn a spot on the 2008 Brazilian Senior National Team, playing in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Athens. He is a skilled perimeter player with great physical presence who has deep range and an excellent shooting touch.
