PROVO, Utah (April 16, 2007) -- BYU head football coach Bronco Mendenhall today announced sophomore quarterback Max Hall has been named the starting quarterback following Spring Camp.
"Max had an outstanding Spring Camp and established himself through his performance and through his leadership," Mendenhall said. "I have complete confidence in his abilities as a leader, as a quarterback, as a team member and in his ability to lead this team forward through summer and through the 2007 season."
Hall, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound native of Mesa, Ariz., transferred to BYU for the 2006 season after redshirting the 2004 season at Arizona State. Hall completed 15-of-19 attempts for 139 yards during Saturday's Blue-White scrimmage.
Mendenhall said junior-college transfer Cade Cooper will redshirt the 2007 season after suffering a season-ending injury during the Blue-White scrimmage. Brenden Gaskins, a walk-on transfer from Glendale CC, will assume the no. 2 position during off-season workouts.
Gaskins had a scrimmage-best 174 yards on 19-of-22 attempts. Both Hall and Gaskins combined to complete 83 percent of their pass attempts during the spring game.
