"As a football family, we are all deeply saddened by the loss of one of our own," BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall said. "We express our deepest, heart-felt sympathy to the Martin family and want them to know our thoughts and prayers are with them."

A standout linebacker for the Cougars from 1994 through 1998, Martin served as a team captain in 1997 and 1998. Throughout his career, he totaled nearly 280 tackles, including 12.5 sacks. In his final season, Martin produced 76 tackles and helped lead the Cougars to a memorable victory over Kansas State in the 1996 Cotton Bowl.
