Assistant coach Shawn Patchell and the BYU men's volleyball team will travel to the Uintah Mountains Saturday to assist in the search for Garrett Bardsley, who has been missing since August 20.

PROVO, Utah (September 22, 2004) -- The BYU men's volleyball team will assist in the search for Garrett Bardsley, a 12-year-old boy from Elk Ridge, Utah who has been missing in the Uintah Mountains since August 20.

Assistant coach Shawn Patchell said he read a letter to the editor in Tuesday's Daily Universe from Courtney Bardsley, Garrett's sister, and felt the team could help. He called her and she was ecstatic that they were willing to assist in the search.

"I usually don't look at letters to the editor but I happened to see this one and it touched me," Patchell said.

The whole team will travel Saturday morning to Summit County and search all day in the Uintah Mountains to help the Bardsley family.

The volunteer search will be in lieu of the team's traditional preseason hike up Mount Timpanogos.

"We think climbing Mt. Timpanogos is an awesome experience but this will be better because we can give back to the community that supports us," Patchell added.

Garrett was last seen when he went to change clothes after getting wet while fishing with his father, Kevin Bardsley. The two had been on a scout trip with Troop 694 of Salem, Utah.
