LAYTON, Utah (July 9, 2009) – Senior Robbie Fillmore is currently tied for the lead at the Utah Men’s State Amateur Championship at the Valley View Golf Course in Layton.

The Salt Lake City native shot a 6-under-par 66 Wednesday to end the opening round tied with Utah State’s Ben Schilleman for the lead in the 156-golfer field. Following Thursday’s second round, the field will be trimmed to 32, including defending champ Dan Horner.

Fillmore enjoyed a solid start with three birdies on the first four holes and put in a few more on holes eight and nine. He also saved a few holes on the back nine with long putts to salvage par.

Sophomore Jordan Rodgers is also participating in the tournament and played a solid round. Former Cougar Jared Overton is in second place at 5-under 67.
