PROVO, Utah (Feb. 12, 2009) –The Mountain West Conference announced its Men’s and Women’s Tennis 10th Anniversary Teams Thursday. Several former Cougars were honored with placements among the singles and doubles selections.

The women’s team included current assistant coach Lauren Jones and student assistant Anastasia Surkova as singles selections and Surkova and Jennifer Miccoli as one of three doubles pairs.

Jones played for BYU from 2003-2007 and was part of three MWC Championship teams. She was named to the All-MWC Team in singles all four years of her career and earned doubles honors her senior year. Jones was also undefeated at the conference tournament in 2007 season and finished with a career-best overall record of 25-13.

Surkova received the MWC Co-Player of the Year Award in her junior and senior seasons as well as All-MWC honors in both singles and doubles. She ended her career with a No. 64 national ranking.

Miccoli and classmate Surkova teamed up in doubles four years (2005-2008), racking up over 60 wins. The two were ranked as high as No. 15 in the nation and finished their senior season at No. 54. The pair defeated high-ranking opponents throughout their career, including a win over the No. 5 duo from Notre Dame in 2007.

A panel of media, institutional and conference personnel and an online fan poll selected the players.
