SARATOGA SPRINGS, Utah (May 30, 2008) -- The Utah Valley Homebuilders Association (UVHBA) is excited to continue its tradition of building BYU's athletic legacy with the completion of Cougar House VIII.
The home, located at 3837 South Beacon Drive in Saratoga Springs, was unveiled at a ribbon-cutting ceremony today.
Members of the UVHBA and the community were in attendance to tour the 5,444 square-foot home. The home will also be featured in the 2008 Utah Valley Parade of Homes, which runs May 30-June 14.
"Since the inception of the project BYU has received more than $1 million through the skills and generosity of the UVHBA and Cougar House lot donors," said Mike Middleton, Cougar Club executive director. "Cougar House VIII marks the sixth city within Utah County where a Cougar House has been built. This is very indicative of the strong local support for BYU Athletics."
The residence, built in the Harbor Bay development, features four bedrooms, three and one-half bathrooms, custom cabinets, granite counter tops and a custom front door.
"Cougar House VIII is beautiful," said Mitch McCuistion, chairman of the Cougar House Committee. "It showcases as well or better than past years the skills and abilities of the donors. It is fantastic. From the details to the floor plan, everything came together so well this year."
Cougar House VIII symbolizes the generosity of the members of the UVHBA. The proceeds from this year's Cougar House will be used to endow scholarships for student-athletes. Nearly 30 student-athletes at BYU have benefited from the Cougar House success over the years.
McCuistion, who has been involved since the inception of the Cougar House program, said it is an exciting thing to finish the eighth Cougar House and to see the outcome of others' generosity.
"It is pretty amazing to dream of an idea and not only see it be successful once but see it perpetuate and evolve," McCuistion said.
The Cougar House is annually made possible by the involvement and talents of local professionals in the land development and home construction industries. Not only was the building lot for Cougar House VIII donated, nearly 70 member companies of the UVHBA also contributed materials and services, all of which will be acknowledged on a sign outside the home in addition to receiving Cougar Club credit for their support.
"We had many new donors this year, and those who have participated have been very generous with their contributions," McCuistion said. "Everybody fulfilled their assignments and made it a very enjoyable and smooth process. The home has come together so well."
