At the 2008 Y Awards Ceremony BYU women's softball head coach Gordon Eakin was named Coach of the Year.
Last season Gordon Eakin led the Cougars to a Mountain West Conference win with a 43-22 record and to BYU's furthest post-season appearance ever, which was the third consecutive berth to the NCAA Regionals.
He currently claims the all-time wins record at BYU, tallying more than 200 victories in his career. Last season, the softball team broke the season home run record and ranked 11th in the nation in team hitting. He also guided the MWC Player of the Year and two All-Americans during the 2007 season. Coach Eakin is a member of the Utah Professional Baseball Players Association and currently works as part of the USA Softball national team as a selection camp coach.
